Circuitcat
I'm quite an amateur at this, but I found two interesting looking pieces near Las Vegas. One may be a tooth.. or just an oddly shaped rock. The other looks like petrified wood due to the rings. I hope the pics are clear enough. I measured the "fossil" as 2" x 1.5 inches (small). What do you guys think? "fossil": Fossilized wood: Also, does anyone know of any good fossil sites in AZ, NV (especially the Las Vegas area), UT or southern CA?
CH4ShotCaller
Not sure about the pics, but I know that CA, NV and UT have fantastic collecting sites. STH is famous! UT has trilobite collecting pay sites. A little bit of 'Googling' and your there. Fossildude19
Cindy, They look more geologic than biologic in origin, to me. But I have been known to be wrong before, and probably will be again. Fossildude19
I also took the liberty of lightening your pics up a bit with PhotoScape. Maybe someone else will have some ideas. Missourian
They look like thin bedding preserved within concretions. The curved bedding in the last two remind me of stromatolites. Context is critical.

I agree, but I like them a lot. Next time I go to Vegas, I need to get out of Vegas...but its so hard Edited June 1, 2013 by bdevey
