MarcoSr
I want to thank Darren for sending me 180 grams of limestone from the Middle Jurassic, Bathonian, Great Oolite strata of the United Kingdom. I had been told by other collectors from the UK that the fossil density for shark, ray and fish micros in Jurassic matrix from the UK was pretty low so I wasn’t really expecting to find many if any micros in a sample of this size. I did find however several shark and fish teeth. I used 10% vinegar with 3 cycles of freezing, sitting in the vinegar and simmering in vinegar on a hot plate and broke the limestone down in about one week. The small size of the limestone pieces and the small sample size made the breakdown much easier than breaking down large limestone chunks. If you move your cursor over each picture you will see a file name that will contain my best guess at an id and a specimen size. I believe the two below specimens are partial Acrodus shark teeth: The following are fish teeth: A vertebra: I’m really not sure of the id of the below tooth. It may be really worn on the occlusal surface. Any ideas? Each matrix that I search makes me more of an avid micro tooth collector. If anyone has or can collect good matrix with shark, ray, and fish micros please send me a PM. I am especially interested in obtaining Eocene, middle Lutetian matrix from the Miretrain quarry, Landes, southwestern France and Cretaceous, Albian matrix from Texas. donckey
Thanks again for posting this. Also thanks for explaining how to breakdown different kinds of matrix. Peter
MarcoSr
After doing some research on the web, I believe that the tooth I couldn't id is a very worn anterior Galeid.
