This is a fossil I found recently in a creek in central Alabama. The length of the specimen is about 1.5 cm. It appears to be a worm tube on a type of Ostrea, on a unique matrix. The matix is about 8 mm thick and has a darker outer layer about 1 mm thick. I'm guessing it is geologic - the vertically oriented structure doesn't match any type of bone or shell I've seen. I appreciate your input.

Thank you, that's it! I had searched the gallery on this site and some other reference material without success. I appreciate your knowledge, but mostly thank you for taking the time to respond.
