This is a fossil I found recently in a creek in central Alabama. The length of the specimen is about 1.5 cm. It appears to be a worm tube on a type of Ostrea, on a unique matrix. The matix is about 8 mm thick and has a darker outer layer about 1 mm thick. I'm guessing it is geologic - the vertically oriented structure doesn't match any type of bone or shell I've seen. I appreciate your input.

Knowing the formation / age of the deposit in which the find was made would help.

However, I would say it is a fragment of an inoceramid clam with attached serpulid worm tube. You can read about this type clam at
