Need Some Help

Hey guys, I'm new and I LOVE this site! Believe it or not, I go digging for fossils in the decorative rocks on my parents patio. I found these a few days ago and wanted to see what you all thought. I'm currently teaching myself about the different periods in Earth's history and the history of Wisconsin, where I live. Most of the decorative rocks come from local quarries.

Thanks so much!

Andrea

Welcome to the Forum, Andrea. :)

Item #1- Maybe coral or bryozoan.

Item #2 - Looks like a coral of some sort.

Item #3- Reminds me of a spiriferid or orthid brachiopod, but it's hard to tell from the pics.

Item #4 - May be a worn imprint of a brachiopod, but i'm not entirely convinced. Could just be vug or gas bubble. If it is a fossil, it may be too worn to tell.

Item #5 - Sorry, but I do not see anything fossily in this one.

Regards,

EDIT- I am assuming pics # 2 & 3 are the same item?

Same with 4 & 5, 6 & 7, 8 & 9? Correct?

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

Nice finds!

Pictures 2 and 3 look like a bryozoan, the lacey (fenestrate?) type. Probably a cast.

4 and 5 look like a spiriferid brachiopod. Maybe another cast.

6 and 7 look like a brachiopod also, of a different type. An impression.

1, 8, and 9, I haven't a clue!

That's the best I can do. There are many more members here that can probably be more specific. ;)

EDIT: You beat me Tim!

Thank you so much! I'm working on getting better pics of everything but I managed to get myself into a bush with bird mites and have been trying to remove the little hitchhikers from my house, my boyfriend and my 5 cats. Another day in the life, I suppose.

The last two pics are the same specimen. I grabbed it and rescued it from the patio because it looks so much like a fish. I got it wet and the marks stayed there so I decided I'd post it and it would either be a fish or an example of Nature's imagination.

2&3, 4&5, 6&7 and 8&9 are of the same thing. Number one is alone since it didn't agree with my taking pictures of it and only let me get one halfway decentish shot.
