obsessed1
Thought this might be of some use to those who build their own screens. http://www.mcnichols.com/ecommerce/eos/stocklist?pageCode=products&navCode=cc:wiremesh#adwords

Scylla
Thanks Kevin! The possibilities seem endless. How do you get the prices without setting up an account?

obsessed1
I hadn't gotten around to pricing anything but I see Bullsnake has your answer. One of thier catalogs was delivered to work and since we have no need to purcahse screening I saved it from the recycle bin. One question I have for the guys who routinely look for micros is what size mesh do you find most useful?
sixgill pete
Thanks for the link. obsessed1 I make all of my own screens, using 1/2" (.500) 1/4" (.250) 1/8" (.125). I also have a couple of small ones at .067 or 1/16" . Anything smaller I have purchased. The press on the screen at this site is much higher than what I pay at Lowes or even a local hardware store for "hardware cloth". I can usually get 25 foot roll of 1/4 inch 2 feet wide for about $30, where the same amount from them would be 52.50 plus shipping. However, there is a huge selection and some very small meshes that I may be interested in to start making my own sifters for micro's. obsessed1
Yes I agree. The standard sizes that can be bought at a local store are much too pricey for me as well. What caught my eye was the smaller sizes and some of the stainless materail that should last a little longer in the salty waters of the bay. Herb
I use a 1/4" , #10, #40 and for final a #100. That should trap anything but the smallest foraminifera. You can buy a 4" , 4 screen set with cover and collecting cup like I mentioned suitable for all but the most diligent microfossil hunter from R.M.Industries in Mansfield, OH. It is made of pvc with brass screens for about $50.
