Mine is a sun glass case I bought from a sports store - works nice but is pretty well at capacity with trilobites. I've stumbled on some cases in some of our other threads - now is your chance to show off (and maybe I'll see a design I can try to build). I'm adding an incredibly rare museum quality straight tusked elephant molar to my collection, I might have to include a glass top to the stand I make for it. Post your Proboscidea!!!!! Odd though, I put specimens in it 20 or so years ago and never exchanged them for others. Anyways, these days lots of excellent cabinets, cases, etc. pop up now and then in secondhand fund raising stores. I wouldn't bother to make them anymore.. As I mentioned before, I don't own an actual display case and I display most of my collection on bookshelves in my home office. One problem with this is that you typically have a single surface to display on and when teeth or fossils are stacked one in front of the other they get obstructed. My solution since I am not very handy with woodwork or tools was to contact J. Greene, likely better known on ebay as "123thegemshop". He is the seller on ebay that makes the individual wooden stands with name plates for fossilized sharks teeth. Any serious Meg collectors has seen these on ebay. Anyway, I proposed a project to him to build me a custom two tier stand, with the back row stand elevated to better display the teeth... kind of like theatre seating for fossilized Megs. I think I saw it not long after I joined in 2009 or in 2010. I remember a French collector repurposed an old television, showing off some specimens in it. Here is how I have arranged my collection within the comfort of an IKEA cabinet - highly recommended for low-budget display cabinets where space is rather limited. Drawbacks: the inside of the cabinet can get dusty quite quickly due to the gaps and crevices in the cabinet's design; and the fact that you have to put the cabinet together by yourself. Hey Sully The teeth stands I had them custom made for my individual teeth, don't think you can get a floating stand like that that would fit a wide variety of specimens. But these are quite cheap to make in my country especially when done in bulk deal. You could start a little side business. Cutomers could provide you with the measurements of their teeth and you could have the stand made to fit and then charge a mark up fee. I'll be moving house soon and although I'm dreading that, the new house shall provide even more room for working and displaying. Here's a sort of panorama around the room using individual pictures taken about a year ago. Left cabinet: Upper Jurassic above and lower Jurassic below. Right cabinet: Lower Jurassic above, then Triassic, then Paleozoic. Plants are on the shelves, and the floor cabinet contains the overflow in the drawers. Middle Jurassic in the cabinet. The Rikers also contain things from upper & lower Jurassic and Cretaceous. Special and unique finds at the top. Below that Tertiary and Quarternary, then Cretaceous. Lower and middle Jurassic. Mostly middle Jurassic with a couple of Triassic multis. The bigguns at the top and the slices at the right. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Let me know if this would be something you were ever interested in. I have not been able to find such stands online elsewhere. I actually make my stands, I think aj said he has them made for him. It would be easy to make stands for monosaur teeth based off measurements but anything with a complex shape the actual fossil or a cast would be needed. I make stands for fossils I sell sometimes.
