Alan Detrich's second attempt a getting a state fossil. He was going for Xiphactinus the first time but others suggested pteranodon (personal favorite) and the attempt fell out of focus.

Trying to get a "mosasaur" for state fossil is like suggesting "lizard" for state reptile- it's rather unspecific.

It will be interesting to see further developments...

Yes, why not a pteranodon? Kansas is famous for them. They also inspire lots of interest.

Anyways, a state or provincial fossil shouldn't be wimpy. Needs to be a species that a hockey or football team can put on its jersey to intimidate the opposition.

Any of those 3 would be a fitting state fossil. (Want to guess my choice?) Unfortunately, most everything he does has an agenda. He's a very vocal creationist. Here's his website.
