Hi Everyone,

Found this poorly preserved Gastropod in a SW Indiana coal mine site. Wondering if it is Pharkodonotus?

Thanks for looking,

Jed

Since it was found in a coal mine I wonder if it's a freshwater gastropod. Any associated fossils?

It's most likely from a marine unit. In Pennsylvanian cycles, there can be marine and non-marine beds within inches of each other.

Context is critical.

Yes. Pharkodonotus can be id'd by the knobby ridge around the middle.

Thanks Missourian for the confirmation. This is actually the first one I have found in my area, pretty happy with it!

Hi Jeffrey,

Missourian is right , marine and non-marine at the same locality. Found some nice ferns there the same day and previously found two nice trilo pygidiums.

Happy Holidays!
