Ammojoe Posted January 5, 2014 Share Posted January 5, 2014 I recently got round to prepping a few ammonites from my collection - I collected them during the summer (August) at the Yorkshire Coast (UK), but have only just got round to prepping them. I thought I'd share them with you. I'm not an experienced prepper, so I was practising on these ammonites. I am pleased with how they turned out, although I still have a little bit of work to finish some of them off. If anyone else wants to share their Yorkshire ammonites that would be great; once we get a thread going I'll post some of my other specimens. All of these ammonites are from the Lias of the Yorkshire Coast, UK, and were prepped out of hard limestone nodules. I used the Chicago Pneumatic from start to finish on all of theses ammonites, and then I gave them a light coat of beeswax. The only other one I've seen like it was a similar size and preservation in a private collection in Dorset. That specimen was from Charmouth whereas mine is Yorkshire born and bred! Here's something more common, it's a Dactylioceras commune. Ammonite is 3.5" wide (9cm). This is one of my favorite ammonites. From Simon G. I consider it to be one of the quintessential ammonites. Your collection is quite stunning. Big congratulations. Wish I could get off there and find some of my own. The Eleganticeras - are you saying they're male and female due to the difference in size? Here's quite a small Hildoceras bifrons from Whitby Bay.
