Painting And Re-Painting Toy And Model Dinosaurs

Hey all! I know you all know about the great scale models of dinosaurs available today in resins, bronze, and all manner of material! If you're like me though, your budget and limited living space prevents you from collecting the bigger ones. One solution I found is to buy 1/72 scale creatures. These look really good next to old Marx plastics, and you can find tons of Miniature Wargaming terrain and accessories to build dioramas. Don't have room for a diorama? Then just do temporary picture set ups, and collect photos of your models like I did:) Here are some old pics of my collection, all purchased sculpts, but painted by yours truly:)

Cool. That kind of reminds me of the old 1970s 'Land of the Lost' series.

Context is critical.

I enjoyed seeing your painting efforts. It occurs to me that that activity is similar in engagement to your reported fish prep. I have always found that the repetitive, but precise movements required in some prep steps were very relaxing, meditative. People have commented, seeing me working on a piece; "How can you do that? That would drive me crazy." I find the exact opposite to be true - the focused, repetitive activity is mentally freeing. I was employed in a very stressful profession/environment. 25+ years ago I started doing a little prep work (Green River fish) as a distraction. Although I now perform this task fitfully as opportunity arises, I find it still of great interest and enjoyment. Have fun.

Thank you all for taking the time to read and comment on my painting post:) If you'd like to see some really nice more authentic dioramas, I recommend www.dinosaurcollectorsitea.com which has been a great inspiration. Also if you just love model dinosaurs and dinosaur art, you won't want to miss www.prehistorictimes.com for 'The Prehistoric Times' magazine, a totally awesome resource!
