Doctor Mud
One more fossil from my recent trip to a lime Quarry in New Zealand. Another survivor of the lime mining process. I stumbled while scrambling down one of the processed piles of lime and turned around to see this sitting just on the edge of my footprint......lucky! Late Oligocene: Otekaike Limestone, South Island, New Zealand. 3 cm diameter, 2 cm high. Prepped with a brush and needle and stabilised with PVA. Was tricky to prep out the holes since the limestone inside was very hard and the bone quite brittle. I plucked the hard limestone off using the needle. squali
Nice Vert. The Oligocene seems to have some really large fish. I have several from the Oligocene of South Carolina. Admittedly a long way to swim from New Zealand It's hard to remember why you drained the swamp when your surrounded by alligators.
