LordTrilobite
So along with the Bambiraptor project I started on. I'm in the planning stages of making a Gorgosaurus skull, also from foam. So I printed out this fantastic image of the Gorgosaurus specimen TMP 91.36.500 at life size. I added my phone in for scale. The skull length is about 75 cm or 29,5 inches. Since this skull seems a bit laterally crushed. I'm mostly still working out how wide I should make my skull sculpture. Other than that I will probably start carving from a big piece of foam soon. LordTrilobite
not much of an update. But here's a blurry life size print of Scott Hartman's skeletal reconstruction (also based on the same specimen). It doesn't really matter that the print is a bit blurry and lacking details because I'll just use this for the rough shape. I'll use the other prints for the detailing. Print and foam block. Rough shape to cut out drawn on the foam. Next step is to cut out the basic shape. But I won't get around to that until next weekend. LordTrilobite
Another small update. The early stages aren't much to look at. But here's some photos anyway. Got the rough profile cut. And I started carving a bit on the nose. The back of the skull needs to be wider so I'm gonna glue some extra foam pieces on the sides. lormouth
A lot of great projects!! Bambiraptor and this big in parallel, that's a big chalenge! I'm sure you'll do a great job, regarding the first one you did. I was wondering too what kind of glue do you use for foam??? once I tryied to use one that was very corrosive for foam... LordTrilobite
Thanks! And yes I've tried a couple of different types of glue for the Parasaurolophus skull. And I also noticed that some of them corroded like crazy. But I noticed that just normal hobby glue works just fine. At least for small areas. I don't think it will work just as well for larger surfaces because it would be harder to keep it air tight. Though what I might try for this Gorgosaurus skull... I heard that people who do this sort of thing professionally use Polyurethane from a can to fill in the gaps so that it acts as glue. For these larger surfaces that might be a good idea to use. fossilized6s
Try a car upholstery spray glue. Sorry for the broad answer but i see that you guys are over the pond, so im not sure what is available to you (EPA regulations, high restrictions of flammables, etc) ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG
LordTrilobite
The nose is taking shape! Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
LordTrilobite
More shape! I have the left side of the nose area in the correct rough shape now. Once I do the same with the right side I can more easily glue extra foam pieces on the sides of the back half of the skull so I can start carving that as well. LordTrilobite
Small update. I mostly just added more detail on the left side of the nose. Edited March 31, 2014 by LordTrilobite Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite

LordTrilobite
Here are some more pictures. I have some extra pieces for the cheek areas now. I haven't glued the pieces together yet. But I think I'll carve a bit more on the overall shape before I do that since the pieces are more easily handled because of the size. LordTrilobite
It's been a while... But here's another update. The side pieces are now glued to the middle piece and I continued working mostly on the eyebrow region. Still a long way to go, but it's getting there. LordTrilobite
Here is another update. I've done much of the rough shape on the left side now. Though I still need to take of a lot of material from the lower jaw. Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
LordTrilobite
Update time! When I started working on this project I only used two knives. A small hobby knife, and a larger kitchen knife. But I had trouble carving some of the concave areas. So my father helped me destroy another knife to turn it into a tool that I could use. And it turned out really handy. And here are also some more progress pics. I've begun making some rough details on the left side, with the new knife this was a lot easier than it would have been with a regular straight knife. I also started on the back of the skull. 1 Olof Moleman AKA Lord Trilobite
