Desiccant For Amber Storage?

I was wondering if desiccant is useful in conjunction with storing amber, or would it be a hazard to the amber, as I have an excess of desiccant and I want to know if amber storage is a potential use.

I'm CRAZY about amber fossils and just as CRAZY in general.

My advice would be "no". The crazing of amber is promoted by low Relative Humidity and the ideal storage conditions are around 45 - 55% RH, which is close to our own comfort zone (but at slightly cooler temperatures... say around 15 - 20 degrees Celcius). For both humidity and temperature, wide fluctuations can also be damaging, so extremes are to be avoided.

I would also suggest no desiccant. Cool and dark and normal humidity seems best. I saw a piece that had been stored with desiccant once in the basement of the museum in Cardiff, well it started as one piece, the cracking was so bad it was, at that point, in about 30 pieces. Now it is probably dust.
