Just wondering why it looks like the material is on a geosynthetic layer. is this a leach pad or slag impoundment? It's hard to remember why you drained the swamp when your surrounded by alligators. Hey squali, sir there's not an answer that i can provide for that question. I can assure you though that this specimen certainly isn't man made and was recovered from a Late Cretaceous formation which is either Campanian or Maastrichtian. There's nothing geosynthetic anywhere around this location. The material had already eroded out of the formation and was still laying on some of the formation itself, but i have no doubts about it coming directly from the layer i speak of, i'd actually cleaned it before photographing, and a microscopic analysis would sshow it to still have plenty Cretaceous sediment all in it. This stuff is typical of things that come from that certain layer.....as far as it being somewhat replaced w/ marcasite, and the red iron staining from being in contact w/ a layer which contacts the find layer. --- Joshua tennesseespride@gmail.com Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Sir, i can confirm it's biological affinity. There is a patternation to the specimen but it's hard to make out because (as i presume), after the material had eroded from the layer, it had weathered for awhile before i came along and recovered it.
