dougstikibar
This is my first post after finding what looks like either a small megalodon or perhaps a great white shark tooth on Topsail Island, NC. I tried to find the formation, but the map I found just listed the area as being quaternary. Anyway, friends and kids didn't believe that it was a fossil, but certainly looks like one to me. Any help is greatly appreciated.
sixgill pete
There appears to be well worn serrations on the tooth. It is a fossil, probably a well worn GW, but hard to say for sure. We really need a better, larger more focus picture. dougstikibar
Thanks. I've attached a higher quality photo of what looks like the outer surface of the tooth. There are very slight serrations that can be felt with the tip of a fingernail.

dougstikibar
Man, you guys are awesome. Is there any way I can determine age or is it usually just a range of possibility? Forgive my ignorance as I don't know much about fossils or how age is determined.

sixgill pete
Thanks for the better photo. It is Great White as Auspex and the others said. Probably Pliocene in age, could be Miocene or Pleistocene though as all of the above wash up at Topsail. BRobinson7
Hey pal, I have a GW that same size and color. Maybe same shark? That would be pretty crazy. Right by the pier on the island
