Bryozoan Bonsai

I went collecting last Thursday and hit three sites in one day. At my crinoid site I found a bryozoan colony lying broken on the surface of the formation. I picked up all the pieces and puzzled them back together while watching TV for the next few nights. I love putting these colonies back together because you never know what they are going to look like when your done. This little 4" x 5" colony looks like a Bonsai tree to me. It's Middle Devonian from the Kashong member. Hamilton Group, Livingston County, New York.

Thanks

Mikey

Those bryozoans are awesome. I never found any lacy colonies just the branching forms and have reassembled 5 colonies so far.

Mikey

Your right, they sometimes don't go back together that easily!

Thanks everyone, glad you like it. I put it in my display case with my other bryozoans and it fits nicely. I guess it does look like ginger root but I thought of a Bonsai tree first.

That just goes to show what experience counts for. I think a lot of people would have just passed on that one. Nice job!

Cool! I'm jealous....I have 2 sets of bryozoan pieces I gathered up last year. Started puzzling one back together but lost patience...smaller pieces than what you have. I'll have to look at them again, I'm sure I'm a lot more patient now.
