Awesome trip and amazing finds, know this was a trip to remember. Thanks for sharing your adventure----Tom

No doubt I will always remember this one! A partial pachy dome!?...Still giddy. :)

Wow that is an adventure that would be tough to end once ya get out there.

Thanks for posting the beginning.

No matter how many days a trip is planned for, it's hard to be ready to go back home. Badland visits are the worst! :D

Thanks for taking us with you. The Sternberg clan are some of my heroes!

Team Sternberg!!! :P

Awesome! The best kind of camping, too. Looking forward to seeing the final prep on some of your finds.

MEEEE too!!!!

A must read--- if you hunt your own fossils

The specimens that were gathered from this trip have been submitted to collections (NMMNH)...most needed little prep. I will post any progress on those that are still in the field awaiting collection. Gonna be a good summer! :)

PRK, I do hunt my own fossils so I bet I would enjoy that book. I need to read all of his books. Bob is a huge Sternberg enthusiast so I get to hear of the man quite a bit. Interesting as all get out.

"Dinosaur Dynasty" Is another great book about the Sternberg family. I'm sure you would enjoy that as well.

Great cluster of vertebrae and ribs! They're not hadrosaur, though, they're ceratopsian. Keep digging, looks like good chance of lots more at that site. Try to find some skull! Could turn into a really useful specimen.

And I bet Bob was really pleased about that pachy dome!

Ya know I wondered about that. Left it to the pro for I.D. We're hoping to collect that on the next trip.

I'm tryin'!!!! :D

He was indeed...

I thought the Badlands were closed to hunting for the most part. Is there a permit to obtain, or is there private land available to hunt with permission? Public lands?

Great pictures and finds! Hopefully you will get to go on many more trips like that. NM sure has a lot to offer.

Marco Sr.

Thanks Marco. I would live out there if it was feasible. You are right, NM has a lot to offer...I have only scratched the Cretaceous surface.

The badlands are not closed to hunting...just collecting (vertebrates). These are BLM lands..."hunt", hike, camp as you please...respect the land and it's regulations. Fortunately for me, I can collect (permit) for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History...I just choose to share my adventures here on the Forum. :D

Happy Hunting.

Probably only a camping type trailer with propane and a water tank would work. That would allow you to stay somewhat mobile but give you better quarters than a tent. If you were really only using the trailer to cook, shower and sleep and were out in the field the rest of the time that might work for a while.
