Newbie question perhaps, but I know enough to ask ;-) Welcome to the Forum. Usually, you try to split a slab from the side, using a hammer and cold chisel, or just a chisel ended rock hammer. It kind of depends on how well bedded the rock is - and how easily it splits. Usually, I will stand a slab on it's most level side, and have at it trying to split it into different layers. Missourian Posted May 19, 2014 Share Posted May 19, 2014 It'd be nice to hear that the Buildex quarry is still accessible and producing. It's been many years, but if I remember correctly, the Tonganoxie plants can be oriented at various angles in the sandstone. It's a matter of finding a promising specimen and then hacking out a sufficiently large chunk to be worked on at home. An example: Link to post Share on other sites
