Shellseeker
Found this one yesterday, hiding in 10 inches of gravel. My hunting partner suggested a mammoth knee pad or at least a bone connected with the knee joint. The bone is 4x4.5x5 inches. Although banged-up it seems to be basically intact. All sugggestions appreciated. 1 The White Queen ".... in her youth she could believe "six impossible things before breakfast"
painshill
I don't know what it is, but not mammoth knee-cap I think. I happened to have a woolly mammoth patella on hand and the sun hadn't quite gone down, so here's some pics for comparison: 1 Roger I keep six honest serving-men (they taught me all I knew);Their names are What and Why and When and How and Where and Who [Rudyard Kipling]
megaholic
I'm thinking elephant carpal or tarsal. Pretty far gone for much more detail. MH "A man who asks is a fool for five minutes. A man who never asks is a fool for life".
Shellseeker
Thanks for both responses -- I am moving from the knee to the ankle.. found this photo of a complete mastodon foot, http://fingerlakesfossilfarm.org/mammal_images/mastodon_foot_bone.jpg Also I found what is likely a metapodial a couple of years back, which are the 4 just below the carpal/tarsal. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/33219-a-very-large-toe-bone/ Curious that this link exists thru a Google but thru a TFF search. I am pleased with your responses because I did not think there was enough detail to comment.
