Baculite Or Something Else?

When I first picked this up I thought it was a worn bacculite fragment but on closer inspection it seems to taper very slightly in the middle, which would be unusual. The rock it is in is Approx. 3" x 2.5" and the part in question is about 2" long and .25" to .50" wide.

The taper might be an artifact of the object's orientation relative to the eroded surface of the entombing rock. That said, I cannot see any evidence of sutures, so bacculite might be my first guess anyway. Does it seem 'shelly'?

My belief is that you were right with your first assumption...probably a piece of a Sciponoceras gracile.

Not compared to the ones I usually find here. They are relatively common in my area.post-7100-0-61851400-1404674099_thumb.jpg
