Frty12345
So, I bought this tooth on Amazon and it finally came, it feels sorta smooth and plastic like on the blade. It's about two inches (haven't measured it yet). Can you guys tell if it's real?

Frty12345
Hokiehunter, thanks sorry, I'm new to this... I literally just started to rekindle my interest in fossils two to three weeks ago. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks man, I'm new to this as I said in my reply to hunter and I can't help but gt nervous, even if it is a smaller tooth. Frty12345
Also, are they supposed to feel "smooth" and plastic like? The blade feels like that anyway and the only other meg I have is polished to the max (It's a necklace)

snolly50
Yes, smooth like a fine (enamel) painted surface is natural. If you're worried about plastic touch a red hot needle to an inconspicuous spot. The weight in hand should also provide a reassuring heft. You appear to have a genuine fossil tooth. Enjoy. Yeah, it is pretty heavy for a small tooth Thanks, I'll try the needle maybe if I still continue to worry.
Auspex
It's just a little 'surf-polished', and might have been treated to a little 'cosmetic cleaning', but it's all meg. Sélacien34
I restore teeth, I can tell you that yours is a little worn but seems perfectly authentic, I agree with Auspex, maybe a small manual polishing at the surface of the crown, on a natural tooth. But I understand your feeling because the brilliance of the enamel or the texture of the root have sometimes given me that impression, long ago, to such an extent that I spent the tooth under the flame to check! Frty12345
I put a red hot needle to it, it didn't do anything to it. It's real thanks for the feedback everyone!
RickNC
Definitely real. Find ones like that on a regular basis.
digit
Yup. Nice (real) meg--not exceptional in size but in very nice condition. Enjoy your new meg and your rekindled interest in fossils. You'll find this forum a great way to develop that interest into a passion. Cheers. -Ken
Frty12345
thanks guys just got a few Makos in the mail with a few small bull sharks, some chipped on the way here though :/
digit
If you can tell that they chipped while being shipped (you have the broken-off frag) then you might be able to apply a tiny dab of cyanoacrylate glue and reassemble. Cheers. -Ken
