RyanNREMTP
I was wanting to go on the trip on the 2nd but that is the weekend of my wife's birthday and for some reason I don't think it would be a good idea to miss that event.

Dude, no need to miss, just take her with you! I once took my wife on a DPS field trip to North Carolina on her birthday weekend, and we shared a room with another collector to boot. She loved it! At least that is the way I choose to remember it...
RyanNREMTP
My wife allows me my hobbies as I allow her hers. They often don't intersect. Thanks though.
Cantab91
I'm planning to join both. I was in Sherman creek a few weeks ago and the surface collecting wasn't bad once I hiked upstream a bit.

Uncle Siphuncle
plenty of oxytropidoceras on the justin trip. i attended in 2003,where nascent weston dropped his milk bottle on one, thus securing his first ammonite. Katfish61
Hi there, I haven't been on here in a while. I have never been with DPS on any trips, do you have to be a member or pay to go with ya'll? Kathy
vertman
Hi there, I haven't been on here in a while. I have never been with DPS on any trips, do you have to be a member or pay to go with ya'll? Some trips are members only and others are open to the public. It would be best to check on the DPS website, www.dallaspaleo.org to see what it says about these two trips. I am betting Sherman is open to the public and Justin is members only, but I can't swear to that.

sharko69
I am sorry I had to miss it. I got back from Austin this evening and headed straight there. Arrived at 5:00 and it looked like the troops had been under the Travis St. Bridge. Did find some nice squalicorax. Glad some were left behind. Can't wait to see some pictures. BobWill
Kathy both trips are open to the public. Times and meeting places are on the dallaspaleo.org site under the trips link. sharko the other trip is at creek near Justin TX called Oliver Creek. It's on private land so it's only accessible once a year when we get permission. Oxytropidoceras ammonites and heart urchins with usually dozens of collectors and their dogs

I would love to see an image of the crab. It would be pretty uncommon at that locality.
bone2stone
Pretty small and not much left of it. I'll take it to the Justin hunt maybe someone has a camera capable of actually showing some details. I found a whole lot of teeth @ Sherman hunt not many nice ones though. Jess B. bone2stone
Well all went on as planned except no pic of that little crab. Not much to go on any way. Showed a few people what I picked at the Sherman hunt. Now on to Justin. A lot more people than I figured would show. Several members from this forum. Got to meet up with old friends and make some more friends. Ahh nothing like the sound of stones klunking when they hit the bottom of that once empty bucket. It was only a matter of minutes before the first Salinia Mexicana was picked that lady gots da radar. More of the Oxytropidoceras than you could stick a shake at! Irregular echies every where. I only kept one ammonite and a scattering of echies. I don't recall of anyone finding any shark teeth. Other than the Oxys there were two other species of ammonite picked there. Mortonoceras and Metengonoceras. If anyone reads this this and remembers the Met it was Identified as Serpentenum. " I finally remembered" Metengonoceras Serpentenum only one found. (I told Roger I would remember when I was laying in bed) Yep I remembered but I was sitting on the front poarch watching it rain. I was there in a capacity looking for Indian Artifacts and Shark teeth. Nothing not even a piece of chert & not a toothy find one. I only stayed for the morning hunt so if someone wishes to add anything on the second leg of the get together post away. I had a good time but this old worn out soul can only endure so much. See yall next time. Jess B.
RyanNREMTP
The second location only lasted about an hour for most everyone. There was a mass exodus (myself included) after the oven was left on in the creek. I found a large nest of echies that I hovered around till I got too hot to stick around. All in all, I had a great time and I can't wait for the next trip to come up.
