Munkejr
Hello, I recently purchased this piece from a gentleman in Alabama. He was unsure of its origin. It appears to be (fossilized) bone. I am not a collector or even remotely familiar with fossils but I am extremely interested in any information that you can offer. Please let me know if there is any other info that would be helpful. The measurements are 4" h x 4.5"w x 4.5" across the top. Lower portion measures 2.5" wide. Thank you.
garyc
That's a cool piece. The cross section really doesn't look boney to me though. I am going to throw out a wild guess here. Stromatolite?

Auspex
I concur: geologic, not biologic. An interesting piece nonetheless!
