Problematic Fossil From Ordovician Nodule

Hello everyone,

I have trouble identifying this fossil which is unlike any I've found in siliceous nodules of Šárka formation (LLanvirn) in Czech Republic. At first I thought it's a fragment of a Conularia, but the shape and structure's not right. I have found only this piece, but it seems to be part of a larger organism or colony. It reminds me most of a cast of colony of barnacle-like organisms. The size of the structure is 3x3 cm, about 12 mm in height.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ondrej

It looks like geologic cone-in-cone structures, to me.

More pics HERE.

I have found something similar to this in South Dakota. I think it's geologic also.

Thank you! I would have never figured this out! It is peculiar that no other nodule collector I've consulted have ever seen anything like this. Probably they have their eyes peeled only for trilobites.

Also I'm starting to have quite extensive collection of stones that look like fossil but are not. I bet it will be valuable one day :)

I have never seen Ordovician cone-in-cone but it does look like it to me also, (see first line of quotes)
