rejd
I decided the other night to make a quick trip out to this site and gave a friend (whos is also on this site) a call to see if he wanted to join me. There was something I had found last year that I wanted to go back and get but that will be for another post. We met up at our usual spot around 9 and got to the site around 11. It was hot and the bugs weren't too bad. The one thing I really like about this site is just how easy it is to access. You can be collecting within a few minutes of leaving the car. There is a large area jsut as you enter the coulee that has bone everywhere! Going left or right from here doesn't seem to yeild very much so we didn't stray too far. The area is Late Cretaceous and is part of the Dinosaur Park Formation. Some of my finds from the day include:This lovely chocolate brown theropod tooth. It has some nice wear patterns on it. Next is an odd peice of bone that I can't quite figure out. I need to look at it some more and maybe bring it to the Tyrrell to figure out what it is. Found A small pice of hadrosaur jaw. What I beleive is A small section of Croc jaw, front and back views. rejd
Yep, also in love with that theropod tooth.... Albertosaurus? Most likely. It is very hard to differentiate between them. Albertosaurus, daspletosaurus and Gorgosaurus are all known from this formation.
