Cylindric Things

I've found strange cylindrical things in berriasian limestones of central Serbia. I have no idea what this can be. Any idea?

Hi levaconline, Interesting find. Not sure what you have there based on the level of preservation present.

Could be way off base but I'm gonna take a wild guess and wonder if it could be part of a poorly preserved belemnite rostrum. I've seen them deformed a bit in limestone with the cylindrical layers pealing off similar to yours and they had calcite veins cutting across the length similar to yours. Many times the end views were not weathered or covered in mineral deposits and you could see the cross section and the semi circular internal concentric rings of the belemnite and/or the phragmocone.

Have you found any other invertebrate fossils in those rocks?

Maybe someone else has some thoughts but I'll throw this out to give it a 2nd look/review....

Regards, Chris

It looks very much like a straight shelled cephalopod fossil, I could be wrong but images on google look very much like it.

I'm not seeing a fossil on this latest piece - looks more geologic to me.

I guess it could be an infilled burrow of some sort, but I'm leaning towards rock on this.

Not sure what your other items are.

Thanks Fossildude19,

You are right, these photos are not so representative. I will take new shots, piece by piece in next days and I will upload them again.

Here are a bit better images of this cylindrical thing with nodes:

If it is any kind of fossil at all, I would say it might be an infilled burrow, or trace fossil.

I wouldn't rule out that it is just a rock, either, as I have seen weird sedimentary structures similar to this.
