Well it was only a matter of time ,i was only saying last month that it was on my wish list... alas it still is.

i just wish it was me, one of my mates came across this partial lower right beak section last week while fossil hunting along the stretch of Taranaki coast we call heaven. it could be from Pseudonrornis stirtoni or maybe another bony toothed bird,i havent done any comparisons yet but an awesome find.

There you go - nice find! Finally a bird that can be confirmed as a pelagornithid.

Pelagornis stirtoni (Pseudontornis was synonymized with Pelagornis in 2010) is, IIRC, somewhat smaller than this, but that doesn't necessarily preclude identification. The pattern of pseudoteeth is diagnostic for pelagornithids, and this is the first pelagornithid fossil from NZ that actually has overlapping parts (dentary) with Pelagornis stirtoni.

Congratulations!

now that it has been cleaned up a bit more, you can clearly see at the fracture that one of the tooth projections has gone, but i think with a bit more research that it can be narrowed down to identify. i hope
