ynot
Hey All, Found this piece in the American canyon, Humboldt mountains, Nevada. Someone told Me the species name , but I forgot. Hope Y'all can refresh My memory. The largest ammonite on the "front" is approximately 2 inches in diameter. Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Uncle Siphuncle
Nice slab. I bought one like this, possibly from the same exposure. Triassic? Grüße, Daniel A. Wöhr aus Südtexas "To the motivated go the spoils."
andreas
Hi Tony, it is middle Triassic. I would say Frechites sp. For further information look in: Middle Triassic Molluscan Fossils of Biostratigraphic Significance from the Humbold Range, Northwestern Nevada, N. J. Silberling & K. M. Nichols, Geological survey Proffessional Paper 1207 Nice slab, congratulations! Kind regards Andreas

ynot
Hey Andreas, Thanks for the link. The maps showed Me these Ammonites came from Fossil hill, but I am unable to view the text. Do not know why.Tried several times and get the cover page only. Ugh!! Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." JustPlainPetrified
I EXPECT to find something like that, only Cretaceous period, when we make our annual trip to the Smoky River in Northern Alberta next week. I just know something like that is out there...smaller pieces are abundant but that singular piece is a dream find...well done!
ynot
Hey JPP, Thanks for the praise I had to dig into the marble of the formation to extract a large chunk. and of the 5 or 6 pieces that I brought home this was the only one to hold up to My inexperience at preparation. I am quite proud of it, although I would like to clean it up more. There are probably as many hidden Ammonites as there are visible ones on the specimen. Hey Andreas, Taj, I still get the maps and cover page-- but nothing else on the link (?) Guess I just no good on computers. Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys."
