snakebite6769
I am hoping someone can help identify what this bone is possibly from, as well as this tooth? It is conical and has serrations on it. Sorry the picture isn't the best, hard to do close up with my phone. Thanks in advance!
Fossildude19
Hey Rob, The "Tooth" looks more like one of the phragmocones of the belemnites that are found at Big Brook. Can't help on the bone ID. non-remanié
Fossildude is correct with the belemnite phragmocone ID. Need much better pictures to tell what, if anything, the bone might be. ---Wie Wasser schleift den Stein, wir steigen und fallen---
snakebite6769
The belemnites are amber colored, this one has two serrated edges but it's round... I will try to get a better picture for you.
snakebite6769
Here are some of the belemnites I have found at that location
njfossilhunter
The top picture is a internal mold of the belemnite chamber. the lower picture is not really clear and would also need to see diffrent views of it to give you more info. John Hamilton
The second item looks like a broken saw fish rostral tooth. Better photos from multiple angles would help with ID'ing it.
snakebite6769
I will get some more pictures of it tonight when I get out of work from different angles. I will also try to get a better picture of the serrations on the round object.
Carl
Those wouldn't be serrations if we all have the right ID for it as a belemnite steinkern. They would represent the chambers within the phragmocone that are analogous to the chambers in a nautilus shell.
Fossildude19
Rob, This picture shows a split belemnite, where one of those phragmocones comes from, inside the belemnites, at the end.
