LanceH
Saturday September 13th Me and Roz (your mod) spent a few hours collecting from the Pawpaw Formation (marine clay) in Texas. We originally wanted to hunt a spot along a road that has been productive for years but unfortunately that site has now been graded after the road above was widened. Hopefully they won't actually cap it with topsoil and it'll eventually start producing again after heavy rains. After crying over the loss of a fantastic site we headed to an alternative site a mile away next to some food shops. Instead of my usual still standing search method I decided to break out the knee pads and actual crawl and canvass this time and found a lot of goodies. Here are some of my finds: A shark centrum: A "Protolamna" shark tooth: Four shark teeth (one "Cretalamna" and three "Squalicorax") and an unknown fish tooh: Three ammonites ("Engonoceras", "Mariella", and "Mantelliceras"?): Three crustacean bits ("Nephrops" lobster claw, lobster body, and lobster tail) Two small crab claws: Two tiny crab limbs: Three "Xanthosia" crabs: and finally a fantastic quality "Xanthosia wintoni" crab with original details (carpace): Edited September 21, 2014 by LanceH

Roz
I am not sure why but Lance always finds the teeth. These are my best finds and the last two images are of a crab that I am not sure what type it is. I was happy to find what I did! Great to find a new site after the disappoint of a well producing site being gone. EDIT, the last 2 pics are of an echinoid. Thanks! [ Welcome to the forum! JohnJ
Roz, you know the tiny crabs are sooo cool. You guys should crawl that place again wearing an OptiVisor. The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ

Roz
Roz, you know the tiny crabs are sooo cool. You guys should crawl that place again wearing an OptiVisor. I hadn't thought of that but just looked them up online. Good idea. This was my tiniest and I didn't realize it was a crab til I got home and looked at it through my loupe. The image is through the loupe with the date of a penny. Welcome to the forum!

BobWill
Y'all did great Lance. I hope the site they ruined isn't the one where Amber and I ran into you a couple of years ago. That was a good place to collect. It was all knee-pads for me. I can't see the small stuff without being nearly on top of it I really go to the Pawpaw for those little ammonites instead of the crabs but if I found more like those that might change my mind. Y'all should come to Jaxbro Saturday. Should be good weather.

LanceH
Ahhhh, cool! I picture the Pawpaw water conditions as somewhat muddy water, so hard seeing a big fish lurking about but I guess if there's other fish and small sharks he'd be there.
