sixgill pete
I found this in some matrix I received from forum member Chase (silverphoenix). I believe it is an ammonite, but not completely sure as I have very little experience with them. Any thoughts as to the ID? It appears to be the shell. It is 5.23mm wide from the opening straight across. howard_l
If it is Cenozoic it couldn't be an Ammonite, they died out with the Dinosaurs. From the pictures it doesn't look like a nautiloid. I would say gastropod. But to be sure looks at the opening. it looks there is material in the opening, try getting it out, if it is a cephalopod there will be a partition just a little way inside the opening. If it is a gastropod the opening goes though out the shell. 2 Howard_L http://triloman.wix.com/kentucky-fossils
