nala
I have found this one yesterday and i think it could be a Psaronius(fern trunk) like the one i have found in the past ,is it the good ID? And i think this one is a sigillaria Edited October 19, 2014 by nala
Plantguy
Hey Gery, Very nice big chunks of material. I dont have much experience with Psaronius so I will say I just dont know. Even though the parallel ribs/ridges aren't evenly spaced and dont all have similar widths I'm wondering if it could simply be a compressed trunk/decorticated inner bark of Sigillaria? Hoping someone else can offer something definite for you. As for the 2nd specimen, I do believe it is from Sigillaria. The inner decorticated bark genus is Syringodendron so I guess you'd technically would call it that. If you look closely you can still see some small holes/remnants of the leaf attachment scars in the parallel rows on the right hand side of the specimen. Nice finds.
