My New Work Station

Hi All,

At last i have got my work station set up with my new compressor (50Ltr), and my Chicago air pen. Very pleased with both but there are some bits and pieces that i didnt think of till i actually got my air pen.

Compressor £199, Chicago Air scribe £89, Pipe work £40, regulator, filter and oil applicator combo £35, Joints and elbows £25, Oil for tool and compressor £30

Total £318

The air pen has taken some getting used to as it is so much more powerful than my electric engraver.

The noise issue is no problem as the compressor only needs to run for 65 seconds in every 10 mins of continuous use of the air pen.

One tip for people like me who are just getting in to air driven tools GO SLOW i got carried away with the power and ended up spoiling 2 of the 3 ammonites i was practicing on.

All in all the cost of setting up the work area is

I am now set to work on some of my finds that i have been saving until i got my work station set up.

Regards Mike

Hi Mike,

Nice set-up!

Useful advice - with great power comes great responsibility....and risk of obliterating fossils by the sounds of it.

I've got scribes coming in this week and I'm inspired to spruce up my work station.

Noticed you still have an electric engraver in the toolset.

Very nice clean setup. Be appreciative that you have a window and natural light. Some of us a relegated to a corner of the laundry room!!!!!!!

One thing I always tell my volunteers at the museum here is... It is better to do a good job slowly than a bad job fastly... take your time.

Mike, very nice setup :)

jpc, great words of wisdom B)

Mike my suggestion would be to setup a vacuum hose nozzle close to your piece your working on, since the air scribe makes a good bit of dust. Also a dust mask and glasses make up my work area. But is not as nice as your area. Great job. :1-SlapHands_zpsbb015b76:

Mike, also you can make yourself a little box with a window on the top surface to do your airscribing in,. It will control the dust (esp if you hook it up to a suction device, as ZC suggests above) and it will also dampen the noise... a lot.

Thanks for posting this!

Great job, and wonderfully uncluttered!

It is a goal of mine to get my area as neat and tidy as yours.
