prettysleepy
The dog dug this up in our backyard in Central Ohio. I thought it looked like an egg with a piece of shell. It is solid and heavy, like a rock. Actually, it is the size of a large potato, 4" long. Could it be a fossil of some sort?
Xiphactinus
Welcome to the forum! What you have there is a natural formation called a concretion. They do indeed look like eggs, but they are just cool rocks. I bet we have more than 100 of those a year posted here for "egg" identification. You are in a great area for fossils. Keep looking. I agree with concretion. ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG

prettysleepy
Aww. Too bad. It does feel like concrete. My dog chewed on it and if she can't break it open, no way I could. Thank you so much. I will keep looking.
Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. Keep in mind concretions sometimes formed around fossils. You might try the Freeze/thaw method (search the forum) to try to open this and see if it contains a fossil.
