Phillyrockhound
I will be in Quepos Costa Rica next week. I have heard there are an abundance of shark teeth along the pacific coast. I have checked for prior postings on this forum but I did not find many leads. Google searches have given some Info, but again, not much besides claims owned by universities. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!
Phillyrockhound
I'm off to Costa Rica! I still have found very little info on the countries fossils or minerals. I plan on getting a dirt bike to do some serious exploring and will post a detailed report on whatever I may find!!
siteseer
In "The Monkey's Bridge: Mysteries of Evolution in Central America," the author, David Rains Wallace reports that he saw a fossil fish in a boulder as he rafted down the Pacuare River. He also notes plant fossils being found in the Talamancas Mountains. You would have to ask about the legality of collecting and exporting fossils there. I'm off to Costa Rica! rejd
I will be in Costa Rica in January. Please let us know what you find while there. Have great trip. Phillyrockhound
Thanks for tips on potential sites! There is a university dig site down by the Panama border but I never found out about access. I posted a report in the trip forum if anyone is interested. I'm afraid I don't have a lot to offer on good areas there, but feel as if I may began laying the groundwork for a good future trip. Please post any info from future travels. Its one of the most breathtaking countries I've ever visited, and am looking to return soon!!! http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/50997-costa-rica-trip-nov-2014/
siteseer
That book title should read "The Monkey's Bridge" - not money's. Maybe one of the roving administrators can fix that for me - thanks. The edit function doesn't work after some period of time. "The Monkey's Bridge" is a great nonfiction read - will get a book review of it together for the forum. It's about the Isthmus of Panama, the land bridge connecting the Americas. There's some geology, some human history, a lot of biology, and some adventure with portions taking place in Costa Rica. The author, David Rains Wallace, also wrote a book about Costa Rica's national parks. Check it out. http://www.amazon.com/Quetzel-Macaw-Story-Costa-National/dp/0871565854/ref=sr_1_28?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1417650008&sr=1-28&keywords=david+rains+wallace In "The Money's Bridge: Mysteries of Evolution in Central America," the author, David Rains Wallace reports that he saw a fossil fish in a boulder as he rafted down the Pacuare River.
