fingerlakes
This geode was found in a gully located near Branchport NY. The shale layers hold geodes and after a large rain it exposes new ones. The layers of shale also hold fossiles from the Devonion period not sure if this is from that period or not. The geode has a small calcite vein running thru it as well as the petrified branch. Edited November 23, 2014 by fingerlakes
Fossildude19
They are not actually "geodes", but rather concretions. They are of the same age as the material found around them, so, Devonian. I can't make out from your picture if there is any detail on the branch, such as diamond shaped patterns or lines. Any chance of a clear, detailed shot of the fossil? Also, in what way does the branch seem not petrified or fossilized? Regards, EDIT: Link added.
