Recommended Posts

I traded with fossilized6s for some Lee Creek matrix. Thanks so much Charlie! I was thrilled to find so many new-to-me species for my collection. Here are some of my finds. As always, if anyone has an ID or a correction, please let me know....I am here to learn.

These look like modern seeds..anyone know what they are? post-13648-0-15009400-1416763074_thumb.jpg

I am intrigued by the bones in this matrix and have selected the ones that almost seem to have recognizable features. If anyone can ID them, please let me know.

I believe that these are coprolites. For some reason I find them very interesting. I do wish that I had the capability to photograph the interior of some of these.

Here are some dermal elements, including one that I think might be a Chilomycterus schoephi dermal spine. It looks like the photo on Elasmo.com.

Thanks, Jeff. They are quite small, but but very distinctive. I am always on the lookout for them. They aren't usually this colour. More cream coloured according to the photos that I've been studying.

I'm with ya on the coprolites, except for maybe the one that looks like a cigar. VERY nice!

Thanks, Carl. yes, I wondered about that rough looking one....(looks kinda painful for a coprolite), not really sure what it is.

Thanks, Don. I have become quite a fan of this matrix! And I have already found another Rhincodon in the matrix I got from you. :)

How do you get pictures like that?

I photographed them using my old Sony Cybershot which has a really nice super macro setting. I photograph the finds with an physical scale, but I don't like what it looks like in a picture, so I replace it with a corresponding digital scale to match.

Excellent post. Curious how you found out the ID on the pteropod Vaginella sp.

Thanks to you I can finally labeled the ones I found.

Thank you braciomyback. I actually remembered seeing them in an older post, and when I found these, I went back and searched the forum. That's neat that it was able to help you too. I looked at your great photos, and I think you have helped me with a few things too!
