old bones
I traded with fossilized6s for some Lee Creek matrix. Thanks so much Charlie! I was thrilled to find so many new-to-me species for my collection. Here are some of my finds. As always, if anyone has an ID or a correction, please let me know....I am here to learn. These look like modern seeds..anyone know what they are? I don't know what this is. Finally found my first otolith. There were lots of these pteropod Vaginella sp. in this matrix. A couple of just pretty things. A garnet perhaps and a pyritized something. Not sure what this is....a tooth? continued in next reply
old bones
continued And this mystery specimen that remains unidentified. I am intrigued by the bones in this matrix and have selected the ones that almost seem to have recognizable features. If anyone can ID them, please let me know. continued in next reply Edited November 23, 2014 by old bones

I do wish that I had the capability to photograph the interior of some of these. continued in next reply

old bones
Beautiful pics and finds Julianna, Ive never seen an otolith before. I'll have to keep an eye out! : ) Thanks, Jeff. They are quite small, but but very distinctive. I am always on the lookout for them. They aren't usually this colour. More cream coloured according to the photos that I've been studying. old bones
How do you get pictures like that? I photographed them using my old Sony Cybershot which has a really nice super macro setting. I photograph the finds with an physical scale, but I don't like what it looks like in a picture, so I replace it with a corresponding digital scale to match.
