Please Help Identify

Please help me identify this fossil. We are thinking it may be some kind of a nut. I found this about 5 years ago along Lake Michigan.

Any help would be appreciated.

It appears to be a water-worn pebble with a quartz vein. It does not appear to be organic in origin.
