Khyssa
I found this in the Peace River in Florida this weekend and am hopeful that someone can give me an idea as to what this is. It looks like a tooth to me and seems to have some enamel on it. The length is 1.25". I'll take some more measurements tonight.
caldigger
A broken equis incisor?
Harry Pristis
The enamel looks too irregular/bumpy to be an incisor of any sort. My best guess is that this is a sliver of mammoth tooth from one end of the crown near the root, hence the hollow portion. http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
izak_
Some kind of insciser?
Khyssa
It's about 1/2" wide and 3/8" thick if that helps. I'll try to get some better pictures that might help.
fossilized6s
I agree with Harry. The "bark" like texture is a dead give away for Mammoth teeth. ~Charlie~ "There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why.....i dream of things that never were, and ask why not?" ~RFK ->Get your Mosasaur print ->How to spot a fake Trilobite ->How to identify a CONCRETION from a DINOSAUR EGG
Khyssa
I'm fine with either identification but if this is a piece of mammoth tooth then it's the biggest piece I've found to date. Here are a few more pictures anyway.
