Frank, The Fossil Fish

Fossildude19

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

For Christmas this year, my father-in-law made me a new weathervane for the Fossil Shed.

He carved a fish out of wood, and covered it with a thin layer of copper, soldered the seams, and voila!

Meet Frank the Fossil Fish, as he has been dubbed by my kids.

He is a carving/sculpture of a Semionotus sp. fossil fish.

I am very happy with him. Suits the shed well.

Enjoy the pics.

Thanks for looking, and Happy Holidays!

Regards,

A great and thoughtful gift that you will have for generations.

You should make sure that he has his name and the date punched into the copper for posterity, this will be around for a long time.

We live on an isolated dirt road in rural Wyoming and had a hard time directing people to our house. Even the address locators couldn't find us, so we put some fish on the arch and tell people to drive down the specified road until they see two fish on the arch. So, as we also sell green river fossil fish, they serve a dual purpose of directions and advertising. Sorry if I have posted this previously. Not nearly as neat though as carving your own.

Nice piece! It will be neat to see it patina through the seasons, giving it more of a old fossil look. You're a lucky man to have such a great father-in-law.

Thanks, ZiggieCie.

It is marked already. ;)

Regards,

Way cool! Does it point to new hunting grounds?

If only! No Mike, but it does, despite it's weight, move with the wind.

Stunning fish Tim and a fine shed you have there.

Regards,

Darren

Thanks Darren!

I am stunned every time I look at the fish.

And the shed is not too shabby either.

I am a lucky guy.

Regards,

I like your fish and i've got shed envy.

John

Thanks John! :)

Before you get all jealous, though - the shed has no heat!

Thanks, Charlie. I can't wait to see the patina either.

And I know just how lucky I am, you'd better believe it.

Regards,

Thanks for sharing, Tim.

That is a well thought out gift. It will always have meaning for you.

Steve,

It was my pleasure - I'm so proud of it, I nearly bust trying to get some pics up of it.

It is a great gift I will treasure, for sure.

There is a lot of love in that craftsmanship.

I shouldn't ask but, does your wife have any sisters? :D

It's hard to remember why you drained the swamp when your surrounded by alligators.

Thats a pretty neat addition to your shed! Are you gonna let it weather a nice green verdigris or is it protected?
