Ludwigia
Hi everyone,Maybe some of you had already heard that the yearly Fossil Show "Petrefakta" in Filderstadt by Stuttgart was cancelled for this year. Here are the latest developments for those who may be interested. Thanks to the initiative of Heiko Sonntag from Trifoss, a Fossil Show is presently being organized at the same time and place as usual. We at http://www.steinkern.de/ have been asked to help with the organization by publicizing it on our website and generally spreading the word, which is what I'm doing here. It's already looking quite promising according to the initial reactions, but we can't switch on the green light until enough tables have been reserved by the end of February at the latest. The price for an exhibitor table has been greatly reduced as well as the price of entrance in the attempt to make things attractive. Here is the link to the newly opened website for both exhibitors and visitors. It's unfortunately only in German, but there are contact addresses given who I am sure could answer any direct questions in English if need be.http://www.fossilien-boerse.de/index.php#homeAll the best,Roger Edited January 9, 2015 by Ludwigia Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
Thanks for the warm support! This time around it is called simply "Fossilien-Börse". We didn't want to tread on the toes of the previous organizers who had cancelled the Petrefakta by taking their name. Michele, If you'd like to visit me, I'll be at the Steinkern stand. Heiko has just informed us that we've already almost got enough tables reserved, but we still need a few more to be sure. Edited January 9, 2015 by Ludwigia Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
Perhaps I should also mention that as far as I understand, the main reason that the former organizer decided to cancel the Petrefakta was because of the ever downward spiralling trend of decreasing public consumption of the exhibitor's wares over the years which had the result that ever less and less exhibitors were present. It was always a good place for the collectors to meet in the aisles and shoot the breeze, but from the point of view of the exhibitors they weren't buying much any more. The straw that broke the camel's back last year was that a good number of exhibitors who had reserved a table just plain didn't show up. The hope is that this can be countered this year with reasonable entrance and table fees, encouraging lower prices for the wares. It also looks like there will be many more "normal" collecters standing behind the tables this time around, which should enhance the effect. 1 Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
I think he is asking where the show is? If that's the case: It's in the same place it always was, The Filderhalle in Leinfelden. Take a closer look at the website where directions are given. We are hoping to have our Steinkern stand up on the stage which would be a good place for our special exhibits. Edited January 11, 2015 by Ludwigia Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Diacanthaspis
Thank you all. I used to read some posts in this Forum in the past, and right now is here a Post related to our “little” fossil show (http://www.fossilien-boerse.de) in this Forum. So I think is only polite to provide some answers and news about it. Especially I still not finished the English web page for this event. So I have to apologize for that too. The main information Posting is in The Steinkern Forum. Finally the Exhibitor List is online: http://www.fossilien-boerse.de/aussteller-verzeichnis.php#Besucher Cheers Heiko Edited January 19, 2015 by Diacanthaspis

Ludwigia
I just got back from the fossil show late this evening and I just wanted to quickly show one thing for starters. Guess who popped in from Italy for a visit? None other than our member "change?"-Michele. And I thought all along that he was a lady! But no, that's not the case. He's the friendly looking gentleman in the middle and on the right is his lovely wife. We managed to have a nice chat with each other using our hands and feet and a few bits of broken French. It was nice to get to know you, Michele, and thanks for the invitation! That's all for now. I'll post a little report within the next few days. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
The fossil show turned out to be a success. I don't know the exact number of visitors, but it certainly was a lot more than last year and I know that all of the exhibitors were satisfied with the amount that went over the table. There was hardly a quiet moment on Saturday, but on Sunday it slowed down enough to have some nice leisurely conversations. Here are some photographic impressions, starting with some of the participants and organizers. Heiko Sonntag, who introduced himself here as Diacanthaspis. He got the whole thing going and without his untiring initiative, the show would never have taken place. The Steinkern team. Roger, Sönke, Wolfgang and Paul. Byron Blessed from Fossils-UK, Whitby. Günter Schweigert from the Stuttgart Museum of Natural History smiling into the camera. Members of the Stuttgart fossil club demonstrating preparation techniques. Heribert in the middle with his friends from the "Geschiebesammler" (glacial drift collectors) in from Hamburg. And now a few views of the objects of desire and the activity surrounding them.
