ynot
Hey folks, I had a lot of fun in the auction and picking through the matrix that Jeff sent to Me. Here are some photos of the neater finds. I found 5 cookie cutter teeth-- Two angle shark teeth - they are identical except the one on the left is missing a lobe-- A small bone--(humerus according to Auspex) 3/8 inch long continued.... sixgill pete
Your whale shark teeth are actually angel shark teeth. Probably Squatina subserrata. At least the one on the right. The tooth on the left may be some type of Carcharhinus tooth. sixgill pete
You should take good clear pics of the bone including head on to both ends and post it in the ID section. You may be able to get an ID on it. ynot
More of the things I found... one dermal dentical--and a tooth of some sort A fish tooth?-- or a bone fragment? No ideal what this is--( mantis shrimp ) A burrfish mouth plate?-- continued again.... Edited January 14, 2015 by ynot Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." sixgill pete
your dermal dentical, the top one is a denticle, the bottom one appears to be a tooth, possibly Scyliorhinus. The fish tooth I am not to sure about, but I don't think it is a fish tooth. The next item I have no clue. Your stingray mouthplate is actually a burrfish (pufferfish) mouthplate. Auspex
The specimen "small bone" is an avian humerus. With bright, sharp, straight-on images and exact dimensions, it should be identifiable to at least family. Congratulations! lissa318
Here's a post of mine where I had a mantis shrimp piece ID'd... I may be wrong. It's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw yours. http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/topic/45274-micro-teeth-help-please/?hl=%2Bmantis+%2Bshrimp#entry490750

I will let auspex try to ID it further. How big is it?
ynot
Hey JPC, Thanks for confirming Auspex's ID- The bone is a smidgen over 3/8 of an inch long. jcbshark
Very nice finds Tony, congrats and thanks for bidding! Every once in a great while it's not just a big rock down there!
Auspex
...The bone is a smidgen over 3/8 of an inch long... If that is correct, then this is not avian. The humerus of swifts and hummingbirds can be almost that short, but they are not nearly so gracile. On the serious side thanks for the help as I am quite clueless about these things. Very nice finds Tony, congrats and thanks for bidding! ynot
Hey Y'all, Here are some more of the things from Jeff's matrix. The first three are the same object. I know that there are a few bone fragments in these but no guess on ID this time.(I am batting 0..ooooooo1) Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." lissa318
My guesses... Not sure on the 1st three pics that are of the same find... 1st pics after those 3 look like fish teeth, second pic maybe urchin spines with something else in there? Scratches on the top in that pic look like little predation marks, next pic (3rd) drum fish tooth at the top of picture??? Looks like you may have some wee little croc teeth in one of the other photos as well and the last pic (not the thumbnail picture) could be a worn stingray barb. I am on my phone so cant see pics really well and I'm fairly new at matrix fossils... Oh, second to the last pic the more flat triangular tooth looks like gar to me? Don't take any of my suggestions as definites though!!! Nice finds!!!!!
ynot
Thanks Lissa, There are a couple that I thought may be internal cast of crab claws. I am amazed at the stuff that was in there, Tony Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough."
