Auspex
Maybe a re-crystallized, stream-rolled horn coral? Sure is pretty, with the crystals peeking out! Auspex
"Stream rolled" means that it has spent a lot of time being rolled around and abraded in moving water; the effect is not unlike that of a giant lapidary tumbler. BigGuy
Michigan is famous for Petoskey stone which is a fossil, often pebble-shaped, that is composed of a fossilized rugose coral, Hexagonaria percarinata. The Lapidary bunch love it for semi precious jewelry.
