Beville Creek Find (Gainesville, Florida)

Found this sticking out of Miocene clay in Gainesville's Beville Creek. I collected a lot of other stuff that day, including some mammalian bone fragments -- but this thing is quite odd.

Linking to the images here because they are too large to upload:

Welcome!

It looks like a partial manatee or dugong rib that hadn't found it's way into the river to get the famous Florida brown patina.

I've cropped and resized the pics and posted them here for those who do not wish to leave the Forum to view them.

The shape looks like dugong rib fragments that I have collected in the Peace River.

I would also say Dugong rib.

RE: resizing...

This copy was cropped a bit, and reduced to 30% of original size:

Done with the basic photo editor that came with the computer, and took about 2 minutes.

Easy! I am no 'puter geek; if I can do it, anyone can!
