Here is a quote from the Smithsonian's National Zoo website.

"Sea turtles have survived on this planet for more than 150 million years."

I think the news release is a little off.

There is a lot of room for error there with the wrong experts.

here is some turtle shell that i found a few weeks ago

bmorefossil: I found quite a bit of what I think is turtle shell a few months ago in a fall at the cliffs. It looks similar to what you've got. It's about 1/2 of an inch thick. I'll try to get some pics posted.

I think the news release is a little off.

I think they meant it is the oldest example of the order Chelonia, not sea turtles as a whole
