Rediscovering My 'bone-Like' Fossil From Childhood

I inherited a collection of fossils, most of which I collected as a child. In it was this odd piece. All of the others were from central Texas, cretaceous as in Exogyra Ponderosa and ammonites. What is this? Iridescent thin layer with an interior stone, like a bone. 45 cm x 15cm x 10cm.

Yup... What uncle siphuncle said. Could just as likely be from Wyoming or Colorado or other states in the area.

I'm a bit confused... you inherited a collection most of which you collected??

With my earliest 'accumulations', it fell to my parents to 'curate'... ;)

It looks like Baculites

  • 2 weeks later...

Wow 45cms is a good length! Nice. Here's one from the Little Smoky River in N. Alberta and the smaller end was washed away years earlier...great colours though.
