Ludwigia
Some very spectacular finds and beautiful prepping! Thanks very much I found this one in a loose block which had probably been lying round weathering for ages. It's the rusty looking one at the top right in the box on the right. After a quick blast on one side with the abrader, I could see that it could be worth it to carry on. The backside had to be freed of matrix before it was finished. It's a bit eaten up on the outer edges, but I find it looks ok nevertheless. Edited May 5, 2015 by Ludwigia Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Ludwigia
I've had some time on my hands today, not having had to go to work, so I've put it to use by preparing that potential multiblock in the right hand box. The piece between the two ammonites was already loose, so I just had to carefully pry it out. There was also a smaller one between them which you can't see in the photo, but there was just no way of keeping it attached, so I just got it out of the way. In the end, I decided to cut the matrix with my diamond blade and gave it a pedestal. Here's the end result with 2 Ancolioceras opalinoides 10cm. in height. Ludwigia
Thanks, Jim! On this page, the one in post #26 is Staufenia sehndensis, the one at the top left in post #28 is Ludwigia bradfordensis deleta and all the others are Ancolioceras opalinoides (formerly Staufenia opalinoides), the most common species at this exposure. PFOOLEY
The ammonites I find are "prepped" by nature or a hammer whack...then there's Roger, turning blocks of rock into museum quality ammonite specimens. Superb preparation...your ammonites are bad@$$. ...(Haven't said that in a while) Carry on... "I am glad I shall never be young without wild country to be young in. Ludwigia
So. One more done. It's a Brasilia bradfordensis of 12cm circumference this time from the staufensis Bank. They don't occur that often here, so I'm pleased to have another one for the collection, particularly since it's complete with mouth aperture. I left a bit of matrix on it so that it stands up nicely on its own. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
Ludwigia
This time yet another A. opalinoides. 10.5cm circumference on matrix. Greetings from the Lake of Constance. Roger http://www.steinkern.de/
