Uncle Siphuncle
I couldn't let Johnny steal the show with his Orthopsis comalensis find from last week, so after yesterday's rain I went out and found one of my own! You see, I am a charter member of the South Texas Echinoid Rapid Response Team (STERRT) so when it rains, I am a "first responder". I grabbed a couple nice little Salenia as well as a Paleopagurus crab claw and a couple rough Globator hancockensis echinoids. I cut my time short to hit another small but productive site that is near and dear to my heart and completely off the radar. In fading light I picked up about 15 Salenia texana echinoids, a nice little Coenholectypus planatus, and the hoss king daddy of Glen Rose formation echinoids, a complete (but slightly distorted) Phyllacanthus texanus! This is an extremely rare echie - so rare in fact that I still pick up partials - and now my collection is graced by 3 complete ones! This one is the smallest at about an inch diameter, about the size of a large Salenia texana. No time for prep or photos right now.....I'm guiding the MS Museum of Natural Science on a 700 mile round trip South TX echinoid binge this weekend.....good times.....rain is still falling.....I'm banking on hundreds of specimens per person this time......MUA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would someone please give me a Vulcan shoulder grab to calm me down?????????? Grüße, Daniel A. Wöhr aus Südtexas "To the motivated go the spoils."
