Another Great Find

Two of my hunting friends invited me to a new location. They were finding good items (bison, horse, a lot of small teeth, an occasional Meg) but I found that llama tooth-jaw section and then this:

A caliper measurement is 32 mm for occlusal length and based on this photo link from Harry's Gallery http://www.thefossilforum.com/index.php?/gallery/image/8784-dire-wolf-vs-bear-dog-carnassials/, I believe this is a dire wolf carnassial.

I am taking a lot of good_natured ribbing about the amazing string of luck and I deserve it. When 3 of you are digging next to each other, it is hard to point to anything but luck. But we all know that fossil gods and luck are fickle. I am enjoying it as long as it lasts.

Sometimes, it just does not seem like it.

It is about 3 hours (car, kayak) each way. So, up at 5am, and if we stop digging at 3pm, I make it home a little after 6pm for dinner, cleanup gear, and then prep for the next 5am if I go back-to-back. Not complaining, because I love the river, but most times, days off (like today) are also enjoyable.

I understand--its a great work out and surely not as easy as these posts make it out....I made a number of similar trips less the kayaking and dug a bit later with Jeff/Chris/Caleb and was really whupped when I got home but ready to go soon afterwards....Lately the back aint buying that program so I'm on injured reserved for awhile and living vicariously thru you all's posts...

Keep after them!! Regards, Chris
