Member Of The Month For May, 2015

The Fossil Forum's Member of the Month for May, 2015, is Carl :goodjob:

In Carl's profile may be found what I consider a major understatement:

Interested in all aspects of paleontology, especially the fringe areas that normally get little attention, including bizarre modes of fossil preservation, anomalous discoveries, and oddities within the history of paleontology.

Despite his vast knowledge and experience (he's on the paleo staff at the American Museum of Natural History, in case you didn't know), Carl's curiosity is insatiable. His "Captain Coprolite" persona is pretty well known by even the most casual observer, but that is just one facet of his fascinations. Did you know that he has made coffee from the seeds of the Kentucky Coffee Tree? True story, and just one example of what a free-range mind does when blessed with a sense of wonder.

Years ago, responding via PM to one of my first Member Collections posts, he asked with genuine interest about some of the details. I still have that message in my folder, because it has such a positive impact on me (and I am sure that this is a pretty big club).

Carl, Thank You!

Yay Carl!

Well deserved, and long overdue!

I read your posts, not only for the inevitable lesson I will learn, but also for your insight, humor, and self deprecation.

Congratulations, Carl!

When I visited the museum in second grade, sixty years ago, I wanted to grow up to be like Carl. I still do. Thank you for generously and enthusiastically sharing your knowledge here on the forum, Carl.

Start the day with a smile and get it over with.

Whoa....

whoa, whoa, whoa...

I actually had no awareness of this discussion and had no idea that this was going on! I saw the award appear next to my avatar and was happy but this is absurdly humbling. Thank you all for this amazing honor! Auspex has heard me go on about this before but I am so proud to be part of this group: it is absolutely fantastic as a wildly knowledgeable resource but also because the members magically keep things orderly, friendly, and informative. This is precisely what I always wanted to see happen in paleo. Kudos to all of you as well! ONWARDS!
